“What a difference a finish makes!”

The Ancient Kauri takes us by surprise often. The activity in the grain
is always interesting to say the least, and quite often is astounding.
Because most of our sales are done over the Internet and telephone, often we do not see our customer’s first reaction when they receive their finished piece, or when they have prepped their Ancient Kauri properly and applied that first coat of finish. Then they see what is “hidden beneath”. It is a very common reaction to hear “I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was truly amazed when I saw what came through in the grain of the Ancient Kauri. I can see into it!”
This is 50,000-year-old wood!
It is different, and it has a different story to tell. Fortunately you have a chance to experience the story for yourself. Your choice.
We are attempting to show you examples of the difference between an unfinished slab (as is typical of our online catalog photos), and what happens when the Ancient Kauri has been sanded to a fine grit and a finish has been applied. The differences are clear to see.
When looking through our on-line selections, be sure to keep in mind that the power of the grain comes through when the Ancient Kauri is prepped and finished, not when it is in the rough! And all of our catalog selections are taken while in the rough.
If you have questions about pieces that are in our on-line galleries, please don’t hesitate to ask!
We will be adding to this photo collection regularly. Please check back in again.
